I remember my mother’s words as if they were sealed to my memory: “I have confidence in you, don’t give up everything has its reward at the end of its journey.” I never had a role model to look up to and be able to say if he/she could do it, why can’t I? Ever since I remember I have had to build my path step by step to create my present and my future.
With two older brothers who dropped out of high school at a very young age my family had no hope until I came and all the faith gathered into me. Having that kind of pressure was not an easy feeling I had to face to become a role model to all my younger siblings, for them to be able to follow the right path and become a professional in this life. But not only did I have to do it for them, but, most importantly, for me.
I remember doctor’s appointments and watching the doctor’s every move. I admired their ability to cure so many people from different ages, cultures, and genders. I wondered if one day I could become just like them and even save lives of others. When Pickens Technical College offered me the opportunity of starting my medical education, I immediately decided to take that opportunity. These past two years I have attended Foundations for Healthcare and Medical Office and, they have truly helped by expanding my medical skills towards my main career goal, which is to become a Registered Nurse.
In the middle of my junior year I went through many experiences that, up to that point, affected my life until now. One of the most unforgettable was my grandmother’s death. My grandmother’s health began to worsen day by day, and her body could not resist it anymore and she passed away. All her loved ones were heartbroken with the news; especially my mother. She cried day and night causing my mom getting hospitalized for hysterectomy surgery. During this time I was a junior in high school and the ACTs were taking place, but with our cultural beliefs of being the only girl, I had to step up and do all the housework my mother could not do. The only worry I had in mind was not the ACTs, but rather not losing my mother. This occurrence reflected on my ACT scores which resulted in the opposite of what I wanted to obtain. Now that I am a senior, retaking the ACTs will prove that I could have done much better.
Attending Metropolitan State College of Denver is the overall accomplishment to pursue my goal. It would be an honor to have the opportunity to graduate from an accredited college, such as Metropolitan State College of Denver. My characteristic of always trying to achieve my best is what helps me overcome good as well as bad. I would give all my effort to succeed and to become one of your best students.
Thank you for taking the time reviewing my statement. I hope you consider me in attending your college because it would be a great chance to keep on going with my Healthcare profession.
